A little about us ...

our beginings

El Molí

Back in 1997 a small group of people, sick of the unfair situation of the abandoned animals in Spain, started the association 'El Molí' to fight for their rights and improve their life conditions.

For 2 years they were trying to find the right land to settle down and eventually they found it in 1999, very close to Terrassa and they obtained verbally the ok from the Citty Hall to start working in there. Very soon they were outnumbered by the huge quantity of abandoned animals arriving to the shelter, some of them just left abandoned at the shelter main entrance by their very owners.

For 7 years, the people of El Molí have faced the administrations with citizen campaigns and with their daily work in the shelter in order to achieve some improvement in the precarious and helpless situation of the abandoned animals in our country. And all of it with very little money, only with the volunteers extra-job time and quite of their own economic resources to fulfill the needs of the animals, and having to witness the ovbliviousness of the politicians, the conscient blindness of the majority of the population and suffering the agression of some people which finally made it possible to kick the association out of the land, thus putting the shelter to an end.

In spite of the bad times we had, we feel fully rewarded by the love we have been gifted with from our animals and for the knowledge that our work resulted in around 900 dogs, about 400 cats, a Florida turtle, 2 pidgeons, a duckling, a sheep with her baby and a couple of Agapornis parrots have been saved from being lost out there and have now a home where they are loved and respected.

And now, we start a new journey with the same willingness to fight for them, for those who have no one else to care after them, for those who might need us. And even knowing sometimes is hard and desperately helpless, we will keep on thinking we are the fortunated ones to have those outstanding friends which help us to keep the association alive either economically or with their work, and ABOVE ALL because we can look into the eyes of our cats and dogs and sink in the true love and faithfulness contained in them.

who we are

The wish of doing our best to help some of the so many abandoned animals in our country leaded us to accept this huge responsability, out of willingness more than with the knowledge on how to manage it, stepping on plenty of difficulties and stumbling now and then, but learning from it, and knowing that each time an animal finds the right family for him, is worth everything we go through to achieve it...

how we are

DESA-El Molí, is a private animal shelter which pretends to achieve the progressive decrease of the number of abandoned pets. Through the education of the citizens, with some institutions colaboration and joining with other shelterd we would like to reach a responsible pet ownership.

It is a must to promote the castration and the use of microchips for a better control of the animal census, and thus prevent uncontroled canine and feline population increase

Our association welcomes everybody to this arduous task of education and protection of the most helpless beings of our surroundings. The aim is to make the citizens see that what they consider their pet, is a close member of their families, since for the animal we really are his family.

In our shelter we welcome any kind of help, either economic and volunteering with daily tasks, , walking the dogs, visits, promoting adoptions, collecting new partners and other activities that we made along the year.

The main objective of DESA-El Moli, at the present time is not only the care of the animals left abandoned, but the education of the citizens towards a greater integration of these animals in their homes. The future lays in the control of the number of our pets population and their identification so that one day we can be sure we won't have to be worried for abandoned animals ill, starving or injured waiting around the corner.
